Indian Women's Cricket World Cup Performance Will Inspire Youth to take Sports as a career: Vijay Goel

Vijay Goel welcomed the team saying that these girls have inspired youths especially millions of young girls across the country to take up sports as a career after their remarkable performance in the World Cup

Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel today (27th July, 2017) felicitated the Indian Women’s Cricket team and its support staff at his official residence. The team returned from London after their splendid performance in the recently concluded Women’s World Cup, ending as Runners-Up.

Vijay Goel welcomed the team saying that these girls have inspired youths especially millions of young girls across the country to take up sports as a career after their remarkable performance in the World Cup.

He said that Indian women are leading the way in international sports arena with their wonderful performances from Rio Olympics to Paralympics and in games like hockey, wrestling, badminton, followed by this splendid performance in the Women’s World Cup.

The Minister said that the message is clear – Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and now “Beti Khilao”. Reiterating Prime Minister’s vision to involve youth in sports, Goel said the idea is “Kheloge to Khiloge (Those who play, they shine)” to develop overall personality of the youth of India.

He also felicitated the coaches and the support staff for their efforts behind the stage and giving India reasons to rejoice and celebrate women’s cricket. This performance will inspire India’s football team in the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup in October.

He also said that the Ministry’s doors are open 24x7 for players and best facilities will be provided to them so that they excel in their respective disciplines in order to make India a sports power hub.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also announced a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh for each member of the Indian team for their performance along with a cash award of Rs 25 lakh each for the support staff of the Mithali Raj-led side.
