India’s Mineral Production Rises By 10% In Dec 2022

The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector in December 2022 is noted to have risen by 9.8 per cent at 107.4 compared to the level in December 2021, as per the provisional figures of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM).  

At the same time, the cumulative growth for the period of April to December 2022-23 over the corresponding period of the last year is recorded at 5.4 per cent.

The production level of important minerals in December was noted as -- Coal 833 lakh tonne, Lignite 35 lakh tonne, Natural gas (utilised) 2888 million cubic metre, Petroleum (crude) 25 lakh tonne, Bauxite 2272 thousand tonne, Chromite 340 thousand tonne, Copper conc. 10 thousand tonne, Gold 174 kg, Iron ore 251 lakh tonne, Lead conc.30 thousand tonne, Manganese ore 307 thousand tonne, Zinc conc. 137 thousand tonne, Limestone 355 lakh tonne, Phosphorite 170 thousand tonne, Magnesite 9 thousand tonne and Diamond 43 carat. 

Further, the significant minerals presenting positive growth during December 2022 over December 2021 were Gold (64.2 per cent), Phosphorite (53.9 per cent), Iron Ore (19.5 per cent), Limestone (14.5 per cent), Manganese Ore (12.8 per cent), Coal (11.4 per cent), Zinc conc (9.4 per cent), Lead conc (4.5 per cent), Copper conc (3.9 per cent) and Natural Gas (2.6 per cent). 

Notably, the other important minerals showing negative growth included were Petroleum (-1.2 per cent), Bauxite (-9 per cent), Lignite (-10.7 per cent), Chromite(-11.5 per cent), Magnesite (-22.5 per cent) and Diamond (-38.6 per cent).
