Piyush Goyal, India's minister of commerce and industry said the country will fully protect the interests of farmers and the dairy industry in the proposed free trade agreement (FTA) with the European Union.

He was in town on an official visit to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations with officials and members of the business community. The minister also travelled to Paris for the business conference between France and India.

Goyal claimed that Italy and France have pledged their unwavering support for the speedy conclusion of talks for the trade deal between India and the EU.

He claimed that at the discussions in Italy and France, India made a point of highlighting the disparities between the two countries' economies and per capita income.

However, he went on to say that India offers significant commercial potential for EU companies that "nobody else in the world can provide."
