India successfully conducted night trials of the Agni-5 nuclear-capable ballistic missile from a defence facility off Odisha coast, which can reach targets up to 5,000 kilometres away with a very degree of accuracy, according to military sources.

The test was conducted to validate new technologies and equipment on the missile, which is now lighter than it was previously. The trial demonstrated the ability to extend the range of the Agni-5 missile if necessary.

The night trials are required to validate new missile technology as well as new equipment added to the nuclear-capable ballistic missile (NCBM). According to reports, the missile's range can be increased further based on the results of the testing.

The missile test from Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha came amid India's ongoing border dispute with China.

In June, India successfully launched a nuclear-capable Agni-4 ballistic missile at night, bolstering India's military capabilities.

In recent years, India has steadily increased its overall military might. Several missiles were successfully tested during this time period.
