India is set to host the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit on Friday, marking the second occurrence since January of this year. The virtual summit will kick off with an Inaugural Leaders’ Session led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the morning.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that India previously hosted the inaugural Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS) from 12 to 13 January, 2023, in a virtual format. This groundbreaking initiative brought together representatives from 125 countries in the Global South, providing a platform for the exchange of perspectives and priorities.
Highlighting India's commitment during its G20 Presidency, the MEA stated that efforts were made to ensure the concerns of the Global South were acknowledged and their priorities were considered in finding solutions to global challenges.
The upcoming summit aims to share the key outcomes achieved in various G20 meetings throughout India’s Presidency. Discussions will extend to addressing challenges posed by global developments, serving as a platform to sustain momentum toward a more inclusive, representative, and progressive world order.
The MEA outlined the structure of the 2nd summit, featuring 10 sessions, with the inaugural and concluding sessions at the Head of State/Government level, both hosted by PM Modi. The theme of the Inaugural Leaders’ Session is “Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust,” and the Concluding Leaders’ Session focuses on “Global South: Together for One Future.”
Additionally, there will be eight Ministerial Sessions with diverse themes, covering topics such as emerging collaborations for a better future, making human resources future-ready, financing people-centric development, sustainable solutions for climate resilience and climate finance, and more.
Participation is expected from countries worldwide, spanning from the Pacific Islands to Latin America. The summit aims to share progress achieved during India’s G20 Presidency and deliberate on the way forward for the Global South to achieve common objectives.
