India Can Be A Global Leader In Trusted Tech: Anant Maheshwari, Microsoft India

As India grows in the technology market, working on trusted tech right from the beginning will help India be a global leader, said Anant Maheshwari, President at Microsoft India, during an event on Thursday.

Speaking at the Microsoft Future Ready Technology Summit, Maheshwari said over the past three years, the world has changed and so has our life amid rapid digitalisation. He also addressed India's powerful contribution to the world which could improve through trusted technologies.

According to a EY research document, there has been an erosion of consumer trust in the technology sector. At present, the technology sector has only 36 per cent of registered consumers trust whereas the majority of 64 per cent do not register high trust in technological companies including 16 per cent of consumers declaring low trust.

During the event, the Microsoft India chief said humans tend to use technology they trust. Fairness, inclusion, privacy, security, reliability and safety, transparency and accountability, all come under trust in tech as they are the important aspects of building trusted tech, he said.

He urged the country’s tech developers to make trusted tech for a strong base to usher India as a global leader in the future. “You can't go back and retool it because trust once lost takes a lot to get back,” he added.

He said that the country’s technological contribution is not just limited to the IT services industry but also extends to the larger ecosystem around us in the last few years. Maheshwari also mentioned Bengaluru as a pillar that showcases the Indian tech sector to the world.

Weighing on the topic of Indian talent in tech, he said about 10 million Indian developers play a core role in technological development globally.

Maheshwari also applauded India for being exemplary in the category of ‘digital public goods’ and its efforts towards empowering every citizen of the country. He said that he feels proud of the digital public goods from the country as they are “truly leading the world”.
