India has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Asia and is ranked at the third position when it comes to the total number of virus infections cases globally. Despite the government’s efforts and the citizens taking preventive measures, including social distancing, self-isolation, wearing personal protective equipment, the number of newly reported COVID-19 cases continues to grow every day.

With no effective drug or vaccine in sight in the next 3-6 months, the public is expected to continue following preventative measures and boost immunity to prevent contracting the virus. Recent studies have pointed out that boosting the immune system is a potential strategy to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of these immunity boosting measures include taking multivitamin supplements and following healthy diets. At the same time, it is essential to ensure the cleanliness of our surroundings and the things we eat and drink as much as possible.

Have we made sure that our drinking water is safe?

The World Bank estimates that 21% of communicable diseases in India are linked to unsafe water. The provision of safe drinking water is crucial to protecting human health during infectious disease outbreaks, including the current COVID-19 pandemic, says the World Health Organization (WHO). Further, there are studies that have found that the COVID-19 virus can survive in the water and sewage. So it is necessary to ensure having consistent availability of purified drinking water in communities, healthcare facilities, homes, marketplaces, and schools to prevent human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus.

If you are already using an RO + UV water purifier to remove bacteria, dirt, and odor from water supply and enhance your family's drinking water, you should also know that it is essential to keep it well-maintained and change the filters at appropriate times to make sure that you are getting an uninterrupted supply of purified drinking water.

Here’s how purified drinking water helps during the current pandemic:

1. Keeps you hydrated

Your immune system is highly dependent on the nutrients present in your blood, which is mostly made of water. If you don't drink enough water, there won't be proper transport of nutrients to all the organs. Staying hydrated is the key to detoxification pathways and to get rid of any foreign invaders like pathogens and toxins. Dehydration could lead to headaches, digestive problems, headaches, and muscle tension. This is why health experts recommend that you drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

2. Prevents waterborne diseases

More than 37 million people in India are affected by waterborne diseases every year, and the nation loses 1.5 million children to diarrhea. Purified drinking water can help prevent transmission of pathogenic microorganisms like protozoa, bacteria, viruses, and intestinal pathogens. In the current pandemic situation, hospitals have become one of the hotbeds of COVID-19 transmission, so it is important that we take preventative measures against diseases.

A recent study has revealed how certain areas in hospitals contained more viruses and how an increasing number of healthcare workers themselves get infected with the deadly virus.

Therefore, it is essential to prevent waterborne diseases and stay away from going to the hotbeds of COVID-19. RO + UV water purifiers can eliminate contaminants as tiny as 0.001 micrometers in size and eradicate harmful pathogens and help you keep waterborne diseases at bay.

3. Immunity boosting mineralizer

Minerals like copper, zinc, and iron are critical for optimizing your immune system, and it is advised that you rely upon food and mineralized water than supplements to get them. Water purifiers that use mineralizers give your drinking water not only refreshing smell and taste, but it also ensures the presence of essential minerals that are usually lost during the RO purification process.

Drinking purified and clean water is the key to stay healthy; hence, it is essential to maintain your water purifier properly, especially during times like the current pandemic. Like any device that is designed to help us, water purifiers also need regular care and maintenance. The filters and membranes of a water purifier get consumed with usage, and require regular service and maintenance. One needs to keep all the filters and membranes in good condition and replace them at appropriate times to ensure a properly functioning water purifier. Most water purifier brands recommend changing filters once every year.

Apart from ensuring that your family has access to an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water, your purifier’s regular servicing helps minimize water purifier breakdown and reduce repair expenses. The health agencies and governments around the world are doing their bit in finding a cure for the COVID-19 virus, and we must do our bit by limiting  exposure to unsafe environments and consuming safe food and water.
