ISRO To Launch Space Tourism: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

The minister revealed that ISRO has carried out a few feasibility studies for a sub-orbital space tourism mission and announced that activities towards space tourism would be firmed up after a successful accomplishment of the ‘Gaganyaan’ mission

Union Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Jitendra Singh notified that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is in the process of launching space tourism suggested by the centre, according to a media report on Monday.

Singh while addressing the Rajya Sabha’s questions regarding ISRO plans for space tourism and the details of the Budget allocated for the purpose highlighted, the objective of India’s maiden human spaceflight programme, ‘Gaganyaan’, a demonstration of human spaceflight capability to low earth orbit (LEO), which is a precursor to the future space tourism programme.

The minister further revealed, ISRO has carried out a few feasibility studies for a sub-orbital space tourism mission and announced that activities towards space tourism would be firmed up after a successful accomplishment of the ‘Gaganyaan’ mission.

According to reports, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), a single window agency under the Department of Space to promote, handhold and authorise the activities of the private sector in the space domain, is also seeking to promote active participation of the private sector in carrying out end-to-end space activities, including space tourism.

Meanwhile, ISRO has also developed international cooperation and relations with 61 countries in various space activities domains.
