The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched a small satellite launch vehicle on its second developmental flight, SSLV on Friday.

The space agency suggested three satellites in its precise orbit namely, ISRO’s Earth Observation Satellite - EOS 07, US-based firm Antaris’ Janus-1 and Chennai-based space start-up SpaceKidz’s AzaadiSAT-2.

The successful launch was highlighted by ISRO on its Twitter handle, an SSLV-D2 lifted off from the first launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre-SHAR, Sriharikota at 9:18 a.m. marking the first satellite launch of this year.

ISRO in a series of tweets informed the success of the mission.

ISRO Chairman S Somanath confirmed the successful launch and said, while SSLV had its maiden flight SSLV-D1, we had a narrow miss placing the satellite in the orbit because of a velocity shortfall.

He added that the problem faced in SSLV D1 was analysed and identified with correct actions implemented accordingly. A lot of studies were done to ensure a successful vehicle this time.

He expressed his happiness towards the real execution and said, "the vehicle achieved an orbit exceedingly well."

He also added after our failed attempt in August last year, the successful launch today is an achievement in just five months.

He further hinted at the new launch of SSLV.
