IITs & IISc Adopt CAT

IITs and IISc will be using CAT 2011 scores as part of the student selection process of their MBA and M.Mgt programmes starting from 2012-13. The Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) used for admission to IITs' and IIScs' management programmes stands repealed. A recent review revealed that JMET was not too different from CAT, and the effort to organise the exam each year seemed enormous with around 40,000 candidates taking the test each year.

"The initiative has brought two premier higher education systems together. This may result in closer tie-ups and collaborative research work that will provide both sets of Institutions a competitive edge in the long run," said Janakiraman Moorthy, CAT 2011 Convenor and professor at IIM Calcutta.

CAT 2011 will be held over a 20-day window from 22 October to 18 November 2011 across 36 cities. Online registration for the test was opened on 17 August and will continue until 28 September 2011.

The IITs and IIScs who offer programmes in management include IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee, and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.
