IIC Elections: Winners Vow To Add Sheen To Intellectual Hub

Suhas Borker emerged as the winner for the Board of Trustees, receiving a total of 266 votes, while his competitors Nesar Ahmed, Anita Singh, Meera Bhatia, and RK Bhargava received 159, 138, 133, and 71 votes respectively

The India International Centre (IIC) held elections for its Board of Trustees and Executive Committee on Saturday, results of which were announced on the following day. The newly-elected members will serve from April 2023 to March 2025. 

IIC is a hub of intellectual and cultural activities in the national capital, and is frequented by who’s who of city and prominent members of the intelligentsia, academia and power elite.

As per the election results announced on Sunday, Suhas Borker (mediaperson and documentary filmmaker) emerged as the winner of the Board of Trustees. He got a total of 266 votes, while Nesar Ahmed, Anita Singh, Meera Bhatia, and RK Bhargava got 159, 138, 133, and 71 votes, respectively. Borker promised to work towards the betterment of the institution.

In the Executive Committee elections, PK Tripathi, an IAS officer from the 1977 batch and former Chief Secretary of Delhi, and Sanjeev Chopra, an IAS officer from the 1985 batch and former Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, were declared elected.

Tripathi got 339 votes while Chopra got 285 votes. Anu Jindal, Gaurav Joshi, Pradeep Gupta, Surendra Kumar, Pankaj Mittal, Sunil Dang, and Suman Khaitan also contested.

The newly-elected members were given a warm welcome by the existing members of the board and the executive committee. The election committee was lauded for conducting a fair and impartial election. 

IIC provides a platform for a diverse range of activities such as seminars, conferences, exhibitions, performances, and screenings, among others. It has been a prominent institution in the country since its inception in 1950, and IIC continues to be a hub of intellectual and cultural discourse in the country.
