Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries (RIL) and Asia's richest man has become the only Indian to appear on the Hurun Global Rich List, which was published on Wednesday.

Despite a 20 per cent drop in wealth, the RIL CEO ranked ninth worldwide with a USD 82 billion net worth, according to the report titled 'The 2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List' collected by research platform Hurun in collaboration with real-estate group M3M.

For the third year in a row, the billionaire has maintained the title of wealthiest Asian. The RIL CEO honoured 20 years at the helm of Reliance, during which time the conglomerate's revenues increased 17-fold and profit increased 20-fold.

Among Indian billionaires, Ambani placed first, followed by Gautam Adani, who has a net worth of USD 53 billion. Cyrus Poonawalla was third on the list, with a net wealth of USD 28 billion. Shiv Nadar and his family come in fourth place with USD 27 billion, and Lakshmi Mittal comes in fifth place with USD 20 billion.

Following the explosive Hindenburg Research report in January 2023, Adani lost USD 28 billion in fortune, or 3,000 crores per week, according to the report.

The report accused the Adani Group of brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud, as well as improper use of offshore tax havens, and raised concerns about the group's high debt – allegations the conglomerate has denied.

Meanwhile, Amazon creator Jeff Bezos has lost the most money in the last year. The billionaire founder has lost USD 70 billion in personal fortune, which is more than Ambani and Adani combined.

According to the study, Bezos is the biggest loser, while Adani and Ambani are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively.
