HuffPost Joins Hand With Times Group To Launch An Indian Edition

HuffPost joins the growing Times Local Partners portfolio that also includes Business Insider, Say Media Inc. and 13 other digital brands

The Huffington Post Media Group and The Times of India Group, announced their partnership to launch an Indian edition of The Huffington Post, a leading global source of breaking news, opinion, entertainment, and community.

The English-language website will combine The Huffington Post's award-winning news and blogging platform with the local expertise and reach of The Times of India Group. Targeting India's rapidly expanding Internet user base, which is expected to reach 370 million by 2015, HuffPost India will cover everything from politics, media and entertainment to technology, religion and lifestyle, and open up The Huffington Post’s blogging platform to anyone in the country with a story to tell.

The announcement was jointly made by Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, and Satyan Gajwani, CEO of Times Internet (TIL), the digital arm of The Times of India.

Alcatel One Touch Launches 2 New Smartphones
Alcatel One Touch, a brand of TCL Communication, on Thursday (21 August) launched a new series of smartphones for its customers in India with a focus on south and west regions. Shilpa Divekar Nirula Appointed India Region CEO

ZTE Net Up 263.9%
ZTE Corporation, a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, forecast that net profit will more than triple in the first nine months as the strong momentum in the company’s 4G LTE business is sustained.

Net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company will be between RMB 1.7 billion and RMB 1.9 billion in the first nine months, an increase of between 208.2% to 244.5 per cent from a year earlier, according to guidance released by the company today. ZTE also reported that first-half net profit increased 263.9 per cent to RMB 1.13 billion. Six-month basic earnings per share was RMB 0.33, while revenue increased to RMB 37.7 billion.

The latest forecast by ZTE reflected strength in revenue from network contracts and ongoing improvements to contract profitability in the first nine months, supported by continued investments by customers in 4G networks in China. The company expects to post a year-on-year increase in revenue in the first nine months, as ZTE reaps returns on its investment in the development of key strategic products such as network routers and chipsets. The company also expects gains from more effective foreign exchange management.

NEC Ranks First In Nist Fingerprint Matching Technology Benchmark Test
NEC Corporation’s fingerprint identification technology has garnered the top place for matching accuracy in the Proprietary Fingerprint Template Test (PFT II), a benchmark test conducted by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to measure performance of fingerprint matching software by utilising vendor proprietary fingerprint templates.

The test evaluated one-to-one verification matching accuracy against 120,000-subject datasets consisting of a wide range of fingerprint data collected for official uses.

NEC ranked number one in the evaluation test by achieving a 99.47% match rate on average, providing definitive proof of the superiority of NEC’s technology. Thanks to the enhanced noise removal algorithm, NEC succeeded in accurately matching even low-quality fingerprints used for the NIST tests, which usually resulted in matching errors when using previous technologies, making highly accurate personal identification a reality.

IFC Invests In SAMHI Hotels    
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is investing $21 million in SAMHI Hotels through compulsorily convertible debentures. The investment will increase India’s capacity in the affordable and mid-market hotel segment, create jobs, and promote energy-efficient hotel design and construction.

This is IFC’s first investment in the hotel sector in India. IFC’s financing will create 2,600 jobs across the company’s various hotel projects in India. Of these, nearly 800 jobs will be for women. With this third round of funding, SAMHI will expand its portfolio by developing greenfield hotels and through acquisitions in tier I and II cities. SAMHI has seven operational hotels in Greater Noida, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune.

Globally, IFC has funded $2 billion to over 270 hotel projects. The hotel and tourism industry is a major contributor to employment, foreign exchange earnings, and tax revenues in emerging markets. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, every dollar spent on travel and tourism generates over three dollars of economic output.
