According to Google, memes are the elements of a culture or a system passed from one individual to another through imitation or other generic means. But memes got its newer definition which says, image, video or a piece of text humorous in nature shared rapidly by an internet user. Presently, Meme is the most coined word in the society, especially among the younger demographics.

Memes are the most powerful weapon for promotion of your brand if used cleverly. Gucci, an Italian luxury brand use the power of memes in a very right way. The luxury retailers carefully craft content to mirror their exclusive and extravagant fashion. Instead of using typical humor, they use professional photography with quirky illustrations. Similarly, Nickelodeon creates it amusing content on Twitter and on Instagram promoting its own shows. They create content which users find relatable and thus gain good engagement in return. 

The most famous meme page Rajnikanth VS CID jokes, popularly known as RVCJ jokes has now emerged as a media partner of several well-known brands. RVCJ, that started in 2010 by Shahid Javed Ansari, is now reaching the heights as a marketing tool in social media. Big Bazaar, known for its blockbuster sales, has also adopted meme-based marketing and have partnered with RVCJ. To anchor the campaign, they created a hilarious sketch based ‘Hero Video.’ The video includes familiar faces and celebrities. They had set the theme of the 'Hero Video' as “Indians during sale.” The video crossed over 1.5 million views on Facebook and 512k views on YouTube.  

According to a study, an individual uses social media for 2 hours on an average. Memes have the ability to easily influence a person. This industry of meme marketing is now rapidly growing and is definitely youth-oriented.
