How Likee Complemented Jazz Sodhi’s Journey From A Middle-Class Family To Tinsel Town

What could be better for an actor than a platform that helps one reach out to more and more audience and simultaneously provide an opportunity to showcase one’s hidden talent? Popular Indian actress Jaswinder Sodhi aka Jazz Sodhi’s tryst for a similar platform led her to venture on Likee, the pioneering short video platform by Singapore-based BIGO Technology Pte Ltd. In her own words, a platform such as Likee is a “big plus for any actor”.

Born in Baramulla in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Jazz’s father was a Punjabi while her mother hailed from Kashmir. Similar to many Indian households, Jazz’s family belonged to the middle-class strata of the society and adhered to the norms prescribed by the same. And these norms restricted a woman from venturing out to pursue her passion. But Jazz had other plans. She wasn’t willing to surrender her life before the conservative patriarchal norms, and thus began her journey for becoming an actress and earning fame that was unseen in her family.

During the course of her journey, Jazz was approached by the Likee team to foray onto the platform. Despite her initial apprehensions, she decided to explore the app. Recalling her experience, Jazz says, “When I was approached by Likee, I was apprehensive and not very keen to join it. But when I explored the app, it was a pleasant surprise for me. I loved the whole experience.”

It was on a chilly evening before Christmas when Jazz posted her first video on the short video platform. According to Jazz, the video acted as a major stepping stone and garnered a massive response. It was loved by one and all and since then, there has been no looking back for her. Her first two videos clocked as much as 15 million views. The numbers kept surging and she is an influencer with more than 3.43 million followers on the platform.

Jazz has made a mark for herself as an actor and a model. Recently, she played a happy-go-lucky character named Lovely in popular television serial Patiala Babes that was loved by the audience. Besides, she is currently working on a film with Bhojpuri superstar Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’. The movie is slated to release in June 2020 in Hindi, Punjabi and Bhojpuri, and is being filmed across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Mumbai.

Likee has been a trusted partner in her perseverance and talking about her passion for the platform, Jazz says, “You can say that when I am not working, I am on Likee. It is Likee that keeps me warmed up. It helps me remain in a zone that helps me whenever I have to perform in front of the camera.” She added that she also uses the platform to promote her songs, TV serials and films.
