Hey RAM! Coolpad Cool Play 6

Hey Ram!
No! this has nothing to do with the ideological dispensation of the  current government.  I am talking about RAM as in Random Access Memory, that magic chip that enhances the performance of the smartphone. Gone are the days of 4 GB RAM phones or high GB RAM only confined to the premium segment phones.  The latest launch by Coolpad - Coolplay 6 has a mind boggling 6 GB RAM.

Coolpad, the  Chinese smartphone maker, launched its flagship Coolpad Cool Play 6 in an event in Dubai on 20th August 2017.   Their USP is 6 GB RAM with a mid-range pricing of Rs.14,999 with  1.9 GHz Snapdragon octa-core processor. The only other phone which has 6GB RAM, One Plus  5,  is  around Rs.20,000 higher than this one.

Specifications
The phone comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 1980 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. The Coolpad Cool Play 6 is powered by 1.9 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor packed with 6 GB RAM.

The phone offers 64GB of internal storage and with 13 MP + 13 MP dual primary camera and a 8 MP front shooter for selfies. It has 4000 mAh, non-removable Li-Po battery with a standby time up to 300 hours, with support for USB Type-C reversible connector and Dual SIM

First Impressions
Coolplay is being marketed as high on performance. Being labeled as a gaming phone Cool Play 6 has a high-grade metal body and a bezels display.  Looks wise Cool Play does look good. Weighing at just 177 gms it is light.    With type-C USB Port located along with the speaker grills it's pretty decent both in terms of ergonomics and aesthetics.

Cool Play has Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It's noteworthy as some some higher priced phones are still coming with Android 7.0 or 7.1.    Another important feature in this phone is the camera. Cool Play sports a dual camera with two rear 13 megapixel camera which include sensors for better low light performance.

Cool Play 6 will be available exclusively on Amazon.in from 4th September 2017, in two color variants, Gold and Black.

Conclusion
India is a market where the consumer is spoilt with choices.  The value proposition is really important. Overall an offering of 6GB RAM in a price range of under Rs 15,000 with a 4000 mAH battery and dual cameras makes this the most affordable 6GB RAM smartphone in India.
