Hero Cycles Achieves Over 5 lakh Bicycles Monthly Productions

Hero Cycles, bicycle manufacturer, has produced 5.09 lakh bicycles as it moves ahead to meet its sales target of 6 million units for this year.

Hero Cycles has been aggressive on growth in numbers, especially in the premium segment with its new high-end brand “Hero Sprint” driving the growth. The company is targeting a robust 15 per cent growth this year, riding on plans to expand manufacturing, producing latest technology bicycles and focusing on the high end segment.

Pankaj Munjal, Co-Chairman and Managing Director of Hero Cycles, said: “With the increased production numbers to meet the increased demand, Hero Cycles has now improved its market share to 43 per cent amongst the organized sector bicycle manufacturers and 39% including the unorganised makers,”

The company believes this landmark of crossing 5 lakh units in production in a month is perfectly in line with its 6 million sales target for this year.

Innovative Test Designed In New Zealand Could Save Lives Of Indian Babies Each Year
More than 300,000 babies die within the first 24 hours of being born in India every year, according to the latest State of the World’s Mothers Report from Save The Children.

An innovative new low cost ToRCH testing kit designed in New Zealand aims to help doctors prevent thousands of these deaths and assist in reducing India’s infant mortality rate.

The brain child of Indian born scientists, Dr Sarita and Dr Anand Kumble of New Zealand company Pictor, the testing kit provides a simple low cost testing platform for five of the major killers of infants - Toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus and Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 Known as the ToRCH test, the name is an acronym for the five infectious diseases.

Used on expectant mothers, Pictor Limited’s test utilises cutting-edge immunodiagnostic technology which allows up to eight tests to be accurately performed together on a specially designed microscope slide, using only a single drop of blood. Results are read on the company’s low cost portable reader powered through a computer USB port, and analysed using Pictor’s exclusive data analysis software which provides results within two minutes of test completion

Dr Kumble of Pictor Limited, said: “The ToRCH infections are responsible for causing over 20 per cent of deaths in new born infants in India and across South East Asia.  These diseases also cause hearing impairment, eye problems, mental retardation, and autism. Traditional tests examining these pathogens have often been too expensive for many poorer families, leaving doctors to make their diagnosis based on symptoms alone".

Pictor launched the ToRCH test in the Indian market this month with distribution partner, Lilac Medicare - a leading Indian in-vitro diagnostics company.  Lilac has strong relationships with a broad spectrum of laboratories across India and overseas.

Strides Arcolab Receives ANDA Approval From USFDA
Strides Arcolab, pharmaceutical company headquartered in Bangalore, has received tentative approval from the US FDA for its anti aids combination drug Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate and Emtricitabine Tablets, 300mg and 200mg.

The Company is one among the six generics company to have received USFDA approval. This abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) has been reviewed under the expedited provisions of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR).

The company supplies ARV products to global procurement agencies and this approval adds to the overall basket of medicines available.

Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate and Emtricitabine Tablets: The combination drug is the generic equivalent of Gilead Sciences Inc’s Truvada Tablets and falls under the anti-retroviral (ARV) segment. It is indicated in combination with other anti-retroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults.

The company has 14 manufacturing facilities across 6 countries with presence in more than 75 countries in developed and emerging markets. Manufacturing is ably supported by a 350-scientist strong global R&D Centre located in Bangalore.

Propalms Acquires Thinspace
