The Haryana government has invited bids for setting up an 800 MW supercritical thermal power unit at Yamunanagar to increase its electricity generation capacity.

There are already two 300 MW units at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar, the 800 MW power unit will be an augmentation to these. This will  increase the state's electricity generation capacity to 3,382 MW.

A pre-bid conference is scheduled to be held on 20 February. The last date for submission is 17 April for techno-commercial and price bids and on 21 April the techno-commercial bids will be opened.

The thermal power project is expected to cost around Rs 5,352 crore. The debt-equity ratio will be 70:30 and will be facilitated by the Haryana government.

The estimated levelised power tariff from the planned 800 MW power plant will be Rs 5 per unit.

P K Das, Chairperson, Haryana Power Utilities said that the national capital region of Haryana is witnessing vigorous manufacturing activity due to which it is expected that the power demand will increase in the future.

Recently, Maruti Suzuki India has set up its units named as Industrial Model Township Kharkhauda in Sonepat on 800 acres of land and the other motorcycle manufacturing unit on 100 acres of area.

The state gets around 500 MW of power from the joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL) and Indraprastha Power Generation Company.

Das further mentioned that they are exploring ways to acquire a joint venture with a coal firm intended to set up a 2,500-3,000 MW pithead power plant in Odisha.
