The government of India on Friday set green hydrogen and ammonia consumption targets for some industries to create demand, news agency Reuters reported.

The Union Cabinet last week approved an incentive plan worth Rs 17,490 crore for the manufacturing of electrolysers and the production of green hydrogen.

The mission aims to aid India’s energy transition drive and become a major exporter in the field to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.

The government said that it would need to have an integrated effort between each of the associated ministries and would have specific targets.

Industry experts had called for demand creation for green hydrogen as a key determinant for its growth trajectory in India.
