Gold prices fell Rs 89 to Rs 46,189 per 10 grams in the futures trade on Tuesday, as speculators reduced their positions amid low demand.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for the October traded lower by Rs 89, or 0.19 per cent, to Rs 46,189 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 7,915 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in gold prices to trimming of positions by participants.

However, globally, gold traded 0.09 per cent higher at USD 1,765.40 an ounce in New York.
