The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in a letter sent to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has urged for special status for the markets of Delhi in the Master Plan 2041 which is in the drafting stage.

Delhi chapter president of CAIT, Vipin Ahuja and national secretary, Sumit Agarwal said that Delhi is the largest commercial distribution centre of the country where goods come from one state and goods go to other states.

This distribution pattern of Delhi has been going on for a long time and the historical heritage of the country. Keeping this in mind, it is very important to preserve them by giving special status to the markets of Delhi in the Master Plan 2041, they said in the letter.

Secretary-general of CAIT, Praveen Khandelwal said that in Delhi, more than 10 thousand shops have been sealed for a long time, due to which the livelihood of the traders and their employees are in big trouble. These shops should be open immediately on humanitarian grounds so that they can start their business once again by any means.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been an advocate of small traders and in view of his vision, there is a need for development, not destruction of business in Delhi, said Khandelwal.
