Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that a four-lane wide section from Phagwara to Rupnagar situated on NH 344A is set to execute in Hybrid Annuity Mode at the cost of Rs 1,367 crore and will be developed under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The project aims to give a big boost to road infrastructure in Punjab connecting significant cities like Amritsar, Chandigarh and Jalandhar and will further be expected to extend mobility to Kapurthala, Ropar, Mohali and Ludhiana

The hybrid annuity model will get 40 per cent financial assistance from the government to begin the work by the project developer, while the rest of the cost will be managed by the developer itself.

The construction of a four-lane will reduce the travelling time to almost half between Jalandhar and Chandigarh and will provide direct access to Khatkarkalan. The project is expected to enhance the transportation facilities for the citizens of Punjab.

The minister emphasised the importance stating that it would lead to improving connectivity and will also facilitate the process of trade and commerce, in addition to promoting tourism in the region.
