Implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) has been very beneficial for many north-eastern states-Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, and Sikkim as the GST revenue collections exceeded the guaranteed annual increase of 14 per cent given to the states by the Centre.

Nonetheless, revenue shortfalls are highest in these states: Uttarakhand, Puducherry, Punjab, and Nagaland, which are made up by the GST compensation which ends on 30 June.

Positively, the states have cut down on their revenue shortfalls from FY21 level to FY22 level.

As a whole, the GST revenue shortfall for FY22 was 27.2 per cent down from 37.9 percent in FY21.
