Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan joined the ongoing mass movement, Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday. Rajan can be seen walking briefly with Rahul and Sachin Pilot in the morning hours in Bhadoti of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.

Rajan has been a vocal critic of demonetisation including other economic concerns regarding growth, and fiscal deficit in the country. In his book - I do what I do - Rajan mentioned that he didn't favour the demonetisation step taken by the centre as he felt that the step would outweigh any long-term benefits.

Raghuram Govind Rajan is an Indian economist and Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He was the Chief Economist and director of research at the International Monetary Fund between 2003 and 2006.

The Yatra commenced from Kanyakumari on 7 September 2022 and as of now, it has covered Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. It is likely to be concluded in February 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra will complete 100 days on 16 December 2022 and to celebrate this occasion, the party's members and workers will organise a concert with a live performance by singer Sunidhi Chauhan in Jaipur, said Jairam Ramesh, the AICC general secretary.

Along with this, Rahul Gandhi will address a press conference at 1 pm in Dausa the same day.

The Yatra has been joined by several political leaders, actors, activists, and erstwhile bureaucrats. Hollywood actor John Cusack has also expressed his solidarity support with Rahul Gandhi for the Yatra.

The families of late journalist Gauri Lankesh and late Dalit activist Rohith Vemula have also come forward in support of the yatra.
