In the highly competitive market of hatchback cars, Italian car maker Fiat India on Tuesday (5 August) unveiled its Punto Evo in the price range of Rs 4.55 lakh – Rs 7.19 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi).

The company was supposed to launch its new Punto model in February this year, but delayed it because the design was not ready. The company will launch the compact SUV Avventura which was showcased at the Auto Expo in February within next 60 days.

The newly designed Punto Evo will be competing against the Volkswagon Polo, Maruti Swift, Honda Brio, and soon-to-be-launched Hyundai Elite i20, all of which are priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 7.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Fiat India is on a comeback trail after breaking up a joint dealership venture with Tata Motors in March 2013.

“For us the challenge is to set up our own network of after sales service. We had received a feedback from consumers that our spare parts are not available which leads to a loss of faith among customers. We have assured our dealers that our spare parts would not only be available but will also be priced at a lower price point,” said Nagesh Basavanhallo, president & managing director, Fiat India.

The company has created a network of 116 dealers in 93 cities across 23 states in India.

The company is offering a 3-year warranty with option of extending it to 2 more years and convenient serice intervals of 15,000 km.

The Punto Evo will come in four engine options – two in petrol and diesel each. The petrol variant of the car comes equipped with 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre mill, which produces 67 BHP and 89 BHP, respectively. The diesel variant comes with the 1.3-litre MultiJet engine in two different states of tune. Power to the wheels will be transmitted through a five-speed gearbox.

The car will come in seven colours having a redesigned front bumper and grille, a new headlamp and fog lamp housing.

The dealers have started taking bookings and the cars will be delivered in the coming weeks.
