Northern India, including the Delhi-NCR area, experienced strong earthquake tremors.

According to accounts, the 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck Turkmenistan, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The impact is thought to be 90 kilometres from Kalafgan, Afghanistan.

People ran out of their homes in northern Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab as the earthquake tremors lasted several seconds.

"People ran out of their houses and began reciting the Koran," an AFP correspondent in Rawalpindi reported, with similar accounts coming from Islamabad, Lahore, and other cities across Pakistan.
