The deadline for linking a Permanent Account Number (PAN) with an Aadhaar number is 30 June 2022. It is therefore recommended that those who still have not linked their Aadhaar with PAN should do so immediately in order to avoid paying a fine of Rs 1,000 as a result of the delay.

Section 234H of the Income Tax Act (via Finance Bill in March 2021) now stipulates that failure to link a PAN with Aadhaar by 31 March, 2022 could attract up to 1,000 rupees in penalties. However, such PAN cards will continue to be valid for another year, until FY 2022-23, to claim refunds and file income tax returns.

The price for linking Aadhaar with a PAN today will only be Rs 500 if one links one's PAN with Aadhaar On 30 June 2022. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued a circular that stipulates that individuals who link their PAN with a unique UIDAI number after 31 March 2022 but before 30 June 2022 will have to pay a penalty fee of Rs 500. By the end of today, if the PAN is not tied up with Aadhaar, the late fee for linking the PAN will be doubled.

Following the payment of the late fee, PANs can be linked with Aadhaar online within 4-5 days. "Fees must be remitted by challan no ITNS 280 with major head 0021 (Income Tax Other Than Companies) & minor head Rs 500 (Fee)," tweeted the income tax department of India's official Twitter account.
