Dixon Technologies' Founder and Chairman Sunil Vachani said that the company's exports will increase from USD 10 billion to USD 100 billion in the next five years.

“In five years, we expect to reach USD 100 billion in mobile phone exports. Dixon exported USD 10 billion in mobile phones last year,” said Vachani.

According to him, India has a huge opportunity for import substitution in electronic goods because USD 90 billion of the USD 120 billion domestic demand in the industry is presently manufactured in India. To create Indian brands in the electronic industry, design-led manufacturing and MSMEs investment are required.

“A scale for design-led manufacturing in the electronics space is being developed. We may soon see Indian names in electronics. MSMEs must engage in the electronic ecosystem. Design-led manufacturing is required for manufacturing to be sustainable,” he said.

To maintain the manufacturing momentum, India must look beyond product-linked incentive programmes and subsidies. India has made the PLI scheme available as an incentive to boost manufacturing in 14 industries, including electronics.

Currently, the value addition in electronic products in India is 85 per cent, but only 15 per cent in mobile phones. It is past time for India to become a manufacturing hub for global markets, he said.
