Samajwadi Party is all set to regain its prestigious Mainpuri seat, as Dimple Yadav is all set to register a glorious victory with a record vote share. Party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha bypolls and wife of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple was pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Raghuraj Singh Shakya. At the time of filing this report, Dimple was leading by a margin of 1,05,014 votes.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh’s uncle Shivpal Yadav congratulated Akhilesh and merged his political outfit Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia with the Samajwadi Party.

It may be recalled that the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of Samajwadi Party Supremo and former UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. The SP patriarch had represented this seat five times in the past and it was a battle of prestige for Akhilesh Yadav to regain this seat. Both Dimple and Akhilesh Yadav were seen campaigning extensively seeking votes in the name of 'Netaji' as Mulayam Singh Yadav was fondly called.

The infighting within the family did create some issues for Akhilesh, as Shivpal had formed his own political outfit Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia. However, as Dimple Yadav was seen moving towards a record breaking victory with over 2 lakh votes, Shivpal Yadav announced merging his party with SP. Addressing the media Shivpal said that his car will now have a SP flag. “We are one from today. I was just waiting for the right moment to announce this,” Shivpal said. He added that Netaji’s name would continue to be the strongest name in Mainpuri.
