Democratising MBA

What is the idea behind Sunstone Business School?
In the knowledge economy, the value of business knowledge is increasing. Every knowledge worker is expected to be a brand ambassador, understand customers, innovate and overall deliver greater value.

However, MBA, an education that is supposed to deliver this, is under increased scrutiny. On one hand it has become more and more expensive and on the other everyone questions if it is too theoretical and doubts its value.

We started with the thought of re-imagining MBA as a means to enabling a professional to run a business, make it more contemporary, practical and value for money. The question that we asked ourselves is - can we democratize MBA?

What is the USP of the PGPM programme you offer?

PGPM is a very unique product. It puts together working professionals who have experience in working in silos in businesses and want to learn more holistically about business. Secondly, we follow a problem-based pedagogy that drives application-oriented learning by leveraging the best that technology has to offer. We have made the program easy for access and consumption by breaking it down to three Levels (1-3) so that each student can pace himself or herself.

What is the eligibility criteria for admission?

We look for working professionals with minimum 3 years of experience. We give a case study and conduct an interview. We are looking for students who can cope up with the rigor of the program and also contribute to other students' learning.

Why do you take only Engineering graduates?

We have been focused on students from the technology sector and most of them tend to be engineers even though we accept non-engineers as well as long as they fulfill our experience criteria and clear the case study and interview. Technology sector in our country is going through a unique phase where it needs to graduate to a knowledge economy from a labor arbitrage economy. We come from technology and hence understand this sector better. However, we are also attracting students from other sectors gradually.

Does Sunstone offers its programme to foreign students? If yes, what is the percentage of foreign students enrolled?

We have started offering our program to foreign students from earlier this year. About 10 per cent of our enrollments are from students outside India.

Do you have any international tie-ups?

We have a content tie up with Harvard Business Publishing and another content tie up with Saylor. We are also working on setting up exchange programs with select international universities.

How did the last year's placements shape up? Who were the top recruiters?
The placement for our PGPM is more like a lateral placement since each student is experienced and also working. Placement for our students is unique in a way that we enable them to move to more business centric roles. Each student has a different background and a different future ambition. Our placement program is individualized for each student. We have students in most top technology companies in the country.

Why should a person with a sound work experience opt for Sunstone over other premiere B Schools?

We are making rapid strides to being the number one business education program for working professionals in our country. Our ever-growing network, unique pedagogy, coaching over teaching and the flexible approach to finish the program in Levels makes us very unique.

What is the median salary package taken by Sunstone Business School's students?
Since students are already working with years of experience, it varies a lot based on their existing salary packages.

Why and when did you commence your campus programme?

We commended our campus program this year and this is our first academic year.

How is it different from the PGPM programme?

We wanted to take our method teaching to a different audience - entry level students. These students need a combination of campus and technology. On the other hand, several campus bases schools in our country lack a vision and direction for their schools. We are partnering with such schools to offer a superlative learning experience to students.

What are your future plans?

We want to take our method of teaching far and wide. Whether its online for working professionals or campus for entry-level students, everyone can benefit from a more corporate oriented, collaborative, value for money program.
