Delhi Govt To Spend Rs 1,000 Cr On G20 Summit Preparations

As per city government officials, 26 Delhi government departments and central agencies are working for the G20 summit

The Delhi government is expected to spend over Rs 1,000 crore through multiple agencies for the preparations for the G20 summit and other related events in Delhi in the forthcoming months.

The grant will be utilised for the upgradation of civic infrastructure along with the beautification work among other things at the cost of Rs 1,084 crore. Various departments of government will work with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)  

Beginning in March, Delhi will host the main summit meet of the G20 countries and seven other events.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had written to the Centre seeking a fund allocation of Rs 927 crore to facilitate significant development projects for the upcoming summit.

As per city government officials, 26 Delhi government departments and central agencies are working for the G20 summit.

Further, the Public Works Department (PWD) will spend Rs 448 crore, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will spend Rs 249 crore, and the NDMC is expected to spend Rs 78 crore mainly for civic infrastructure development and beautification work.

The development project will include repairing roads and pavements, beautification of medians, and traffic islands on major road stretches, installation of LED lights, and electric buses for national and international visitors.

The government officials added that the tourism department has also planned several events and programmes at an estimated budget of Rs 72 crore.
