Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Israeli counterpart Major General Yoav Gallant discussed key projects relating to the co-development of military hardware on Friday, according to a media report.
The defence ministry notified Singh's first conversation with Gallant after he became Israeli defence minister around two months back and underlined Singh’s statement claiming, India's priority for indigenisation and domestic manufacturing of defence equipment under the self-reliant initiative 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
It said the defence minister acknowledged the cooperation of Israeli industries to boost a world-class defence manufacturing ecosystem in India and welcome them to deepen investments in joint ventures with Indian companies in collaboration with niche technologies.
Rajnath Singh expressed his gratitude on Twitter saying, India’s attachment to Israel is tremendously important and he was happy to have a conversation with the Defence Minister of Israel.
"Looking forward to working closely with Yoav, an effort to strengthen the defence between both the countries," he said
Further Gallant’s tweet underscored both countries will promote important defence projects, He said speaking to my counterpart Rajnath Singh we discussed security challenges and strategic issues. And as both countries recently celebrated 30 years of diplomatic ties of togetherness, we will further deepen our bond and promote important defence projects.
Meanwhile, according to the Indian statement, Singh has expressed pleasure in the signing of some important MoUs between Indian and Israeli companies at the recently held Aero India in Bengaluru.
It said the Israeli defence minister has marked the positive role played by India in the region and conveyed the Israeli government's keen interest in enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The statement further confirmed both ministers’ affirmation committing to further deepening of bilateral defence relationship under the framework of the 'Vision Statement' adopted last year.
A statement from Gallant's office further affirms the same, a deepening of ties between Israel and India and promoting strategic dialogue, research and development and industrial cooperation.
