According to a Chinese public broadcaster, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China is eager to work with the United States to find ways to collaborate and ensure that both countries gain.

The claim comes days before an anticipated meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi in Indonesia on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

Xi said in a statement to the National Committee on US-China Relations on Wednesday that the US and China are significant powers and both should improve communication and collaboration to help in bringing global stability.

Citing causes of friction between the two countries, Xi said that China's attitude toward Taiwan, as well as China's connection with Russia, have been important stumbling blocks in the relationship. Xi also emphasised the United States’ attempts to prohibit its semiconductor companies from selling technology to Chinese firms.

Taiwan has become a major topic between the United States and China since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August. China conducted large drills surrounding Taiwan to demonstrate its resentment since it claims Taiwan as its territory.

Following the party congress, Xi was elected for a third term as leader of the Chinese Communist Party. Xi had also said that China will never relinquish the right to use force against it and has chastised the West for intervening in the topic.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Biden also said that "the United States does not seek conflict with China." The US government has maintained that it is critical to maintain open communication channels with China.

Xi and Biden are set to attend the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia in November, but formal words on whether they will meet have not come yet from any side.
