NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang on Tuesday said that ChatGPT is just beginning of the journey with artificial intelligence (AI).

Speaking in his keynote at GTC 2023, Huang said, “The warp drive engine is accelerated computing, and the energy source is AI.”

He added that the capabilities of generative AI has created a sense of urgency among companies to reimagine their products and business models.

Huang said that the arrival of accelerated computing and AI come just in time, with Moore’s Law slowing and industries tackling powerful dynamics —sustainability, generative AI, and digitalisation.

“Industrial companies are racing to digitalise and reinvent into software-driven tech companies — to be the disruptor and not the disrupted,” he said.

A new forecast from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Artificial Intelligence Spending Guide shows that global spending on artificial intelligence (AI), including software, hardware, and services for AI-centric systems. The spending will reach USD 154 billion in 2023, an increase of 26.9 per cent over the amount spent in 2022.

During the GTC 2023, the NVIDIA CEO also recounted how NVIDIA was there at the very beginning of the generative AI revolution. He said that he had hand-delivered to OpenAI the first NVIDIA DGX AI supercomputer, the engine behind the large language model breakthrough powering ChatGPT.

Huang said humanity was at the “iPhone moment of AI”.

Earlier in the day, in a blog Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said that humanity has entered the age of AI.
