The Chandigarh Union Territory administration plans a warm welcome for G20 Summit delegates arriving at Chandigarh, along with a detailed tour of the city’s popular locations. According to reports, the delegates would be treated to an exhibition polo match at the Indian Reserve Battalion ground at Sarangpur, Chandigarh on 29 January.

The match played between 3 pm to 5 pm is likely to relieve the delegates of their traveling stress and freshen them up for the first meeting of the International Financial Architecture Working Group on 30 and 31 January at Hotel Lalit.

There are 170 delegates in all, including the representatives of the G20 countries, guest countries and international organisations, who will be participating in the two-day meeting.

The administration has left no stones unturned in comforting the delegates. There are arrangements for five-star lodging at properties including Hotel Lalit, Hotel Hyatt in Industrial Area and Hotel JW Marriot in Sector 35. These properties are decorated with souvenirs and paintings demonstrating our country's ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ culture, (Guest is God). Besides, these 72 SUVs and cars have been hired for their smooth commute around the beautiful city.

According to an officer, guides well-versed in different languages are hired to accompany the guests, to make them familiar with the cultural heritage of the country, while they visit Chandigarh’s famous sites, including Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and Capitol Complex.

Apart from this, the administration has decked out various roundabouts with flags of participating countries.

Established in 1999 in response to several world economic crises, the G20 Summit is held annually under a rotating presidency that rests with India this year.
