Centre Releases Rs 2,244.36 Cr To States Under DAY-NULM To Reduce Urban Poverty In Last 3 Years

During the last three years, the Centre has released Rs 2,244.36 crore to states and UTs under DAY-NULM to reduce urban poverty, said the minister of state for housing and urban affairs, Kaushal Kishore, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

Centrally sponsored scheme- DAY-NULM aims at providing shelters equipped with essential services to the urban homeless.

In addition, the mission also addresses livelihood concerns of the urban street vendors by facilitating access to suitable spaces, institutional credit, social security, etc, he said.

Kishore also said that the union budget 2023-24 has announced the setting up of the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF) through the use of priority sector lending shortfall. 

A total of Rs 10,000 crore per annum are expected to be available for this purpose. 

"The fund will be managed by the National Housing Bank and will be used by public agencies to create urban infrastructure in tier 2 and tier 3 cities on the basis of stipulated guidelines," he added.
