The Minister notified the parliament that restraint is probably on New Year celebrations and states have been suggested to enforce mask mandate, use of sanitizers, and social distancing, along with increased understanding for preventive doses
The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has informed the Parliament about the measures taken by the Union government to tackle the rising Covid concern in India and said that random sampling of international passengers has already begun at airports. He said the Union government is committed towards tackling the pandemic and is taking appropriate measures.
The Centre has urged states to boost genome sequencing to determine new variants of Covid, such as Omicron sub-variant BF.7, which is steering the Covid wave in China. The Minister notified the parliament that restraint is probably on New Year celebrations and states have been suggested to enforce mask mandate, use of sanitizers, and social distancing, along with increased understanding for preventive doses.
The Centre would probably issue advisories to all states in the wake of the fresh Covid wave in China, Brazil, Japan, and other countries. The central government has already provided financial assistance to states in the battle against the pandemic. So far, Rs 220 crore vaccine shots have been given, Mandaviya said.
Earlier, three cases of Omicron BF.7 strain, steering the current wave of Covid infections in China, have been caught in India. The first case of the highly contagious strain with greater transmissibility was seen in Gujarat earlier in October. With two in Gujarat and one in Odisha, the number of Omicron BF.7 cases in India now stand at three. While this hasn't created a significant hysteria, the new Omicron variant is known to spread fast and has a shorter incubation period.
The symptoms of the new BF.7 sub-variant are similar to those of the common flu. There are problems like colds, coughs, and fevers that are highly infectious. It spreads to a large group of people within a brief period. According to experts, it is crucial to take precautions in public places. Experts said that people have become a bit negligent because many restrictions made during Covid-19 have been removed. It is important to follow the preliminary measures.
