Bharti Airtel Slashes 4G Rates

It’s quite clear. The battle for telecom revenues has shifted from voice subscribers to data consumers. First the leading operators went and cut 2G data rates by 80-90 per cent. As if that was not enough, market leader Bharti Airtel has gone ahead and introduced lower price packs for 4G data subscribers.
It lowered rentals for 4G connections to Rs 450, Rs 650 and Rs 750 compared to the earlier base plan of Rs 1,000. While subscribers get bundled 2GB of usage on the Rs 450 and Rs 650 plan, it goes up to 4G at Rs 750. This is similar to the packages that if offers 3G subscribers today. Customers subscribing to Rs.999 and above plans will also be able to enjoy free access to an entertainment library of 1,000 movies and 100 games powered by BigFlix and Indiagames.
Says a telecom consultant: “This is not really a price cut. What it has done is try to create a new segment of 4G subscribers at lower price points.” The immediate impact of the lower tariffs will be on Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Infocomm that has yet to launch 4G services.
