FC Barcelona on Monday (17 July) has announced record revenue of 708 million Euros ($ 812.8 million) for the period 2016-2017 with a profit of 18 million Euros while reducing the debt by 24.5 million Euros to 247 million Euros.

Josep Vives, FC Barcelona spokesman said that the return was 13 million Euros more than Barcelona's estimated revenue figure.

The salaries of the famous trio Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar Jr. accounts for 66 per cent of Barcelona's expenditure, the statement added. The club has a strategic revenue plan to top 1 billion Euros by 2021 and this financial result fits into the strategy giving it a boost.

Recently, FC Barcelona was ranked the fourth most valuable sports team in the world after the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, Major League Baseball's New York Yankees and Manchester United by Forbes magazine.

The club has also recently signed a four-year sponsorship deal with Japanese internet retailer ‘Rakuten’ for around 55 million Euros per season.

The revenue surpasses last year’s figures by 29 million Euros which stood at 679 million Euros, boosted by the four-year renewal of the partnership with Qatar Airways.

Current La-Liga Champions and rivals Real Madrid had reported revenues of 620 million Euros last October, excluding the fortune earned from player sales as Barcelona's do.

Last season Barcelona relinquished their La-Liga title to Real Madrid and was knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Juventus. Barcelona clinched Copa Del Rey which was their only title last season.
