BPCL To Set Up 1GW Renewable Energy Plant In Rajasthan

Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) is likely to set up one gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity plant in Rajasthan, an initiative supposed to back the state’s net zero emission target by 2040, according to a media report on Tuesday.
BPCL has officially confirmed the signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Rajasthan for rolling out the renewable energy power plant. However, the details regarding investment and project implementation are yet to be declared.
MoU was signed between Bhaskar Sawant, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy, Rajasthan and Shelly Abraham, Head Renewable Energy, BPCL, according to report.
The petroleum company with its ambitious goal of 'net zero' in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040 is set to expand its renewable portfolio to reach 1 GW and 10 GW of generating capacity by 2025 and 2040 respectively. Has even chalked out a strategy to develop electric vehicle charging stations at around 7,000 petrol pumps in the coming 5 years.
Meanwhile, BPCL operates three oil refineries in Mumbai, Kochi and Bina, with a refining capacity of around 38 million tonnes. Adding on to its 20,000 petrol pumps and 6,100 LPG distributorships.
