Rajnath Singh, the union defence minister, stated on Sunday that those who claim that press freedom has been violated forget that the BJP's governments have not banned any media outlets or restricted anyone's freedom of speech.

Referring to the 1951 revision of Article 19, he claimed that the Congress administration had even changed the Constitution to restrict free expression.

Singh said that a discussion about freedom of expression has reopened in the nation while speaking at a summit hosted by the RSS mouthpiece Panchjanya.

He added that the intriguing thing is that individuals who claim that there has been a breach of media freedom today forget whether it was Atalji's government or Modiji's government.  They did not place any restrictions on anyone's freedom of speech or expression, nor did they ban any media outlets.

Attacking the Congress, he claimed that there had been numerous instances of various freedoms being violated during the long history of the grand old party.

Even the Constitution had been altered by the Congress government to limit free expression. He said that people who live in glass houses shouldn't cast stones at others.
