Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, claiming that they never discuss the future and constantly assign blame for their failings to others in the past.

Gandhi was speaking to the Indian diaspora in this city's Javits Centre while on a visit to the US. They observed a 60-second silence in memory of the victims of the Odisha railway accident. At least 280 people were killed in the catastrophe involving three trains, which also highlighted the need for improved rail safety. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's resignation has been demanded in various circles.

Gandhi said that when the Congress was in power, there was a train accident. The Congress did not rise and declare, now that the train has crashed, it is the British's fault.

Therefore, this is the issue we confront at home; we find rationalisations rather than accepting the situation as it is, Gandhi remarked, declining to name the Congress minister.

He (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) is attempting to operate the car—the Indian car—and he glances in the rearview mirror. He then wonders why this car is crashing rather than moving forward. The same concept also applies to the BJP and the RSS. You pay attention to the Prime minister and the ministers. Never will you hear them discuss the future. They just discuss the past, he claimed.
