On Thursday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced that he would not contest for the post of Congress president. The announcement came after he met with Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Delhi.

Gehlot apologised to Congress President for the turn of events in Jaipur and for failing as a CM. MLAs supporting him opposed the central leadership and escaped the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting. Gehlot said Sonia Gandhi would settle the issue when asked whether he remains the Chief Minister.

Earlier, Gehlot said that internal matters that had occurred before the Congress president's poll would be settled soon. He said the party has internal discipline, which helped it endure the decrease in Lok Sabha numbers, and it keeps on being a national party.

Apart from that, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today went to Delhi to collect his nomination papers that will be filed for the party president post.
