The process of creating a range of products packaged without plastic was a long one involving extensive research, development, and stability tests
Gurgaon-based firm Arani Ecosteps launched all personal and home care essentials product completely without the use of plastic. The company has taken this step towards making the planet healthy.
Arani is founded by Gauri Gupta and Shivraj Negi, who just like all of us were busy living when a chance trash-taking-out session raised some questions in their mind. That slowly grew into conviction that plastic waste was a problem they wanted to work towards solving.
In recent research where samples of 22 healthy adults were taken to check for microplastics, 17 of them came positive. One-third of these people have polystyrene- a kind of plastic used in food packaging. Some of them had polyethylene- a kind of plastic used in carry bags. Apart from the fact that we are choking our planet, we are now also polluting our bodies. So, what is the solution? You can't stop using personal health care products nor can we stop ordering food.
The process of creating a range of products packaged without plastic was a long one involving extensive research, development, and stability tests. But in a short span of time since, Arani has already helped save 500+ kgs of plastic across nearly 47,000 units including bottles, tubes, wrappers, containers, cotton swabs and toothbrushes. It is interesting to note how a small action of ours that won't disrupt our life in any way can lead to positive change in the environment.
For example, using toothpaste tablets instead of your regular toothpaste, shampoo bars instead of shampoo bottles, etc. Arani's products also include a variety of dilute-at-home concentrates that enable consumers to re-use old bottles, while saving on transporting water over thousands of kilometres. Finally, their refill store in Gurgaon is one-of-its-kind; just walk in with any empty bottles and fill them with non-toxic home care liquids! A cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution, Arani is keen to help save the oceans, wildlife, and us, in general.
While the convenience, versatility, and durability of plastic led to mass adoption over the past 50 years, we are now facing heaps of toxic waste that is killing wildlife, destroying landscapes, and suffocating our oceans. While Arani is doing their part, we can do ours by starting, one step at a time, towards consuming differently.
