Airtel Says Its 5G Services Are Live In 500 Cities In India

The company said that it had added 235 cities to its network in its largest 5G rollout yet

India second largest telco Airtel on Thursday said its 5G services are live in 500 cities across the country. The company said that it had added 235 cities to its network, making it one of the largest rollouts to date.

Airtel says that its 5G services can deliver between 20 to 30 times higher internet speeds coupled with a brilliant voice experience and super-fast call connect.

According to Ookla report from February, Airtel experienced a top median 5G download speed ofof 268.89 Mbps in Delhi.

The report had also mentioned that Airtel’s 5G early adopters experienced speeds ranging from a 78.13 Mbps median download speed in Kolkata to 268.89 Mbps in Delhi during January 2023.

In a statement, Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel, said, “We are delighted to see the rapid pace of 5G adoption in the country. Airtel was the first to offer 5G services in October 2022, and today’s mega launch is our promise to connect every Airtel customer in the country with ultra-fast Airtel 5G Plus. We have already covered 500 cities and are adding 30 to 40 cities every single day. By September of 2023, we expect to expand our 5G footprint to all of urban India.”
