Tata Group's Air India on Thursday announced its future hiring plan of more than 1,000 pilots, including captains and trainers in an attempt to expand its fleet and network, according to a media report on Thursday.

It added, currently the airline has more than 1,800 pilots and is likely to order 470 aircraft with Boeing and Airbus, including wide-body planes.

According to reports the latest Airbus firm order comprises 210 A320/321 Neo/XLR and 40 A350-900/1000 and the Boeing firm order comprises 190 737-Max, 20 787s and 10 777s respectively.

The said matter is supported by Tata Group’s advertisement that states, "We are offering multiple opportunities and accelerated growth across our A320, B777, B787 and B737 fleet for captains and first officers, as well as trainers”. It further underlined that more than 500 aircraft are joining its fleet.

Meanwhile, the hiring plan has concerned Air India’s pilots as the airline recently announced the revamp of their salary structure and service conditions and on 17 April rolled out a revamped compensation structure for them including the cabin crew, which has since been rejected by the two pilot unions - Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) and Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) claiming alleged violation of labour practices.
