Air India marks its first anniversary under the Tata Group and has listed plans for the second year that includes investments for the improvement of product on its long-haul international flights and ordering of new aircraft.

Terming the previous year's achievements as stunning, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said that the firm is working behind the scenes and building platforms and capabilities aiming toward the company’s future growth. “Everyone one of us, internally and externally, is hungry for us to do it,”he said.

He added that the firm's response to lapses needs to be different from other airlines.

Wilson stated that the airline is also dealing with negative publicity due to the urination incident.

The plan includes historic order of 500 aircraft and an investment of USD 400 million (Rs 3,300 crore) for refurbishment of the airline's onboard products.

The investment will be utilised to improve the interiors of its entire wide-body fleet including modern seats and best-in-class inflight entertainment across all cabin classes.

The airline has decided to increase its operating aircraft by 27 per cent resulting to a 30 per cent increase in flight numbers. This includes a 63 per cent increase in flight operations per week for international flights.

The Air India Express and AirAsia India will merge by this year, while Vistara will merge with Air India by next year.
