Union Minister of Agriculture and farmers' welfare Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday said that it is important for farmers to adopt modern technology in order to increase their revenue.

While speaking at the 'North East Krishi Kumbha - 2023' at the ICAR-NER Tomar said, "With the new age, there is a need to adapt to new technologies. Ensuring these technologies reach every farmer in India, in Meghalaya and help raise their income is the need of the hour."

Tomar encountered protests earlier in the day while visiting the College of Agriculture in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya.

He said that Khasi Student Union activists were carrying placards and yelling slogans while denouncing the government's decision to scrap a plan to establish the Central Agriculture University in Meghalaya.

The protesters also vandalised the College's signboard, which is connected to the Central Agriculture University in Imphal
