The newly elected President of Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge has assumed office today i.e. on Wednesday. During this, he said that this is a very important moment for him. He praised Sonia Gandhi and has thanked the party.

This is the first time in the last 24 years that a non-Nehru-Gandhi family member is holding the post of Congress President.

Sonia Gandhi has congratulated Mallikarjun Kharge on the occasion of his coronation. Sonia Gandhi said that Kharge has occupied the post of President due to his hard work and dedication. She said that now she will be relieved of a huge responsibility.

After becoming the party president, Kharge will have to face many challenges. Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat elections are round the corner. Also assembly elections are going to be held in 9 states in the next year i.e. 2023. In such a situation, there are wide challenges in front of Kharge.

Kharge after joining as Congress president is expected to resolve the leadership tussle in Rajasthan that had appeared during the Congress Presidential race between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot. This needs to be resolved keeping in mind that Rajasthan goes to Assembly polls towards the end of 2023.

Apart from that, the biggest organisational challenge for the new Congress president is to incontinently arrest the attrition. Both elderly as well as young leaders continue to leave the Congress party and join other parties as the leadership doesn’t encourage confidence.

Lok Sabha elections are also going to be held in the year 2024 that will be a huge challenge on Kharge's shoulders. The performance of Congress has decreased in the last two Lok Sabha elections. In such a situation, it will be a big responsibility for Kharge to give accurate base to the party in the coming times and do better in the Lok Sabha elections.
