A latest study has revealed that 98 per cent of enterprises surveyed in India are using or plan to use at least two cloud infrastructure providers and 33 per cent are using four or more.

In addition, the study said that 96 per cent of the surveyed enterprises in India are using or plan to use at least two cloud application providers (Software-as-a-Service), with 51 per cent using cloud applications from five or more providers.

The Oracle-451 Research noted that multicloud strategy allows IT departments to meet the specific technology needs of different teams across the organisation.

It was discovered that the top two drivers of multicloud strategies for Indian enterprises are data sovereignty (53 per cent) and cost optimisation (37 per cent). Other drivers of multicloud strategies include business agility and innovation (32 per cent), Vendor influence (28 per cent) and Best of breed cloud services and applications (27 per cent).

Further, the report revealed that (59 per cent) of Indian enterprises believe ‘economics’ as the most important motivating factor for taking a multicloud approach to its cloud infrastructure.

In India, 70 per cent of respondents said Multicloud guarantees cost optimisation for their organization’s public cloud spending, noted the report.

Speaking on transitioning to cloud, Kandarp Kant, CTO, Poonawalla Fincorp said, “By transitioning to cloud, Poonawalla Fincorp has seen huge benefits. From processing 20,000 loans per month in September 2022, and after moving to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the company now processes 6,00,000 loans per month.

“During the shutdown, Poonawala Fincorp shutdown their in-premise datacenter and moved all their servers to the cloud. The ease of migration was also a good experience. 60 per cent of our workloads run on OCI, while 40 per cent is from other cloud solution providers,” added Kant.
